BitComet - Black Edition

Jan 10, 2008 Author: Vortrack | Filed under: Technology Related

Original BitCometFor those who are using the original orange BitComet, should try the BitComet Black Edition 0.66. It’s a stable release and you will be shocked when you see the speed. For those who don’t know what is this software all about, BitComet is actually a BitTorrent download management software (the original orange version can now support HTTP and FTP download). What is a BitTorrent? Here are some explanations from Wikipedia.

BitComet Black EditionIt’s not on any of the BitComet’s official website. Thanks to my friend Weng Wah for introducing me to this powerful tool. I have been using the original orange BitComet for a long time. I know there are other good torrent download softwares outside but maybe because I got used to this software, so I stick on this. But after my friend told me that this BitComet Black Edition can conquer the speed. The programmer for this software is RynSmile.

We (the Streamyx users) may be facing slow download speed if we are downloading torrents even if you have many seeders for that particular file you are downloading. But this will change your :( face to  or maybe :D .

I’ve downloaded a file with quite a number of seeders. I download the same file using the original BitComet and BitComet Black Edition. See the difference. I’m using latest BitComet 0.98 comparing with BitComet Black 0.66.

Original BitComet Speed BitComet Black Edition Speed

See difference? Most importantly is that the original BitComet’s average download speed was 80kbps - 110kbps while the BitComet Black Edition’s average speed was 110kbps - 130kbps. The screenshot taken above was the fastest speed I saw for both BitComet.

I’ve actually uploaded the BitComet Black Edition here. It’s not an installer but a folder consist of all the files. Just extract to anywhere. Run the BitComet.exe and you are ready to go. If you already have a BitComet running on your desktop, please close it because you can’t run both.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR COMPUTER. IF SO DELETE IT AWAY. So far I use it without any problems. Hope you will enjoy the speed as much as I do. This is just my personal opinion. Your BitTorrent download software maybe faster. This file is in .RAR format. WinRAR is recommended.

Edit: Sorry for the download error. It’s fixed now.
Edit 2: Due to complaints, I shall make the download a little more private. This is my blog.

My Ubuntu Has Arrive !!!

Jan 9, 2008 Author: Vortrack | Filed under: Technology Related

Woo hoo !!! This afternoon my mom took the package from the Mr. Postman. And gave it to me after I came back home from having lunch with Yeevon and Canice (will post that later :P ). Then I immediately take a picture of the package.

My Package Has Arrive

I thought it would never arrive. Took them so long. I’ve been waited for so long for this to arrive. They wrapped up with those plastic with those air bubbles in it (I forgotten what does it call  ). Even with those wrappers on, what I get is not in perfect condition. Anyway, most important is that the CD can be able to read. SO what’s inside?

What Is Inside?

Ubuntu 7.10 aka Gutsy Gibbon

I’ve ordered 2 CDs (1 for me and 1 for someone who is interested of having it). They also gave me Ubuntu’s stickers. I guess I’ll have to use Linux if I’m a human being. Ok, first of all, I’m not a good reviewer. And actually I just use the Live CD startup, which means demo. Here are some of the cool features they have.

Move Windows Effect

Moving window effect. When you’re dragging the window, it has some effect like you’re holding a paper and move around :P . When you close the window, it will not just close like any Windows OS (except Windows Vista). It will fade away to the bottom.

Windows + Tab Effect

My Diary On Ubuntu

This is actually a “Windows Key + Tab” effect. Windows Vista has this function too but Windows Vista is like a file-sorting-like version. But this is like the Mac OS X Leopard. It shows all the windows or applications you have open and you can choose which you want to see or use. It looks better if you find the windows you need than looking at your taskbar and see your application’s name in word forms :P .

List Of Games

Here are the list of games are inside Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. The games that I really like inside was the Sudoku, Chess, Blackjack and Mahjongg.

Games On Desktop

I love playing Sudoku. It’s my favourite that I play it almost everyday (except Sunday because TheStar Newspaper don’t have :( ) There are few other games that I like too. I really wanted to transfer some of the games from there to my Windows XP. Too bad we can’t or should I say, I don’t know how  .

Pidgin Messenger

I was using their free Pidgin Instant Messenger. This is actually a multi-protocol instant messaging client, which means you can use AIM, MSN, Yahoo and so on to chat. There are many free software builded inside like Firefox web browser, GIMP image editing tool, OpenOffice word processing tools and many more other useful tools.

I wanted to edit those image using GIMP, but turns out that I’m still new to the software. I will try it out next time. I don’t know whether I should or should not install. Hmm, hard decision. Anyway, that’s all for now, peace out.

Trying Nikon D40

Jan 4, 2008 Author: Vortrack | Filed under: Outing, Technology Related

Went out with Darren yesterday to give his very late birthday present. It’s his fault for not coming and collect. :P Just kidding. Went to Caffé 1920 to have our lunch there and from there I tested his Nikon D40 DSLR. This Digital SLR camera is the tools for newbies at a cheap and affordable price. Compared with my Pentax Optio A20, both almost the same price.

Darren the Owner of Nikon D40

Nikon D40 DSLR

Actually I was thinking of getting a DSLR for myself too. Canon 400D and Nikon D40X was on my mind as these 2 DSLR camera are the cheapest around. After playing with Darren’s camera, I found that there are some disadvantages, they do not have shake reduction or image stabilizer. It’s hard to capture image if you hands are shaky. But then again, what can we expect more from this price. This DSLR cost less than RM2,000. Just get a tripod and can take good pictures with it. Below is a photo I took using his camera.

Fish and Chips at Caffé 1920

And this was taken by him. Isn’t it yummy? :P

Meatball Spaghetti? Caffé 1920

After our lunch, we went out and try some photo shootings. He took this beautiful photos at the fountain.

Beautiful Fountain

Beautiful Water Fountain

I can’t take this kind of photos with my camera :( . This was taken by my using his camera.

Cineleisure Photo

Style is important when taking photos using DSLR. You will look different if you hold a DSLR compared with a compact camera. Even the style you hold your camera will be different. Here are his style of taking photos.

And then continue with taking sexy girl’s pictures from above  . That’s it for now, peace out.

Waiting For Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon To Come

Dec 31, 2007 Author: Vortrack | Filed under: Freebies Discounts, Technology Related

It’s been more than 2 weeks I ordered the Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. What is this? This is actually an operating system like Windows but is based on Linux. And most importantly it is FREE !!! :D . But as you can see below, you will need to wait 4-6 weeks for the CD to arrive.

Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon Order Request

I ordered 2 incase anyone wants it. Since it’s free, why not? I felt like becoming a distributor  . Nah, I’m not greedy. Just 1 for me, and another one give it to those who wants it. Just leave ur names on the comment box and we shall meet  .

A little bit of the “sneak preview”. I think this OS has been out quite long if I’m not mistaken. See, I’m a low tech guy :P .

YouTube Preview Image

See how cool the effect is  . Actually it’s main competitor now is the Apple’s Mac OS X Leopard. Both graffics are cool. Ofcourse 1 is free and 1 is not. I’m not going into details, I just want to share this free stuff to everyone out there.

YouTube Preview Image

Actually I’m not sure if I ordered the correct one as another website at Xubuntu says that they wont be shipping out free CDs as they are lack of fundings. And now I’m not sure what is the difference between Ubuntu and Zubuntu interms of their OS. All I know both running different platform. But I hope to have the same results just like the video :P .
